Winter Skincare Routine
When it’s cold outside and warm indoors, this can wreak havoc on our skin, especially if you’re working in an open plan office, classroom or even a hospital. Seasonal changes can dry out your skin leaving it lack-lustre at best and at worse with dry, chapped lips. Add a hangover or food overindulgences into the mix and your skin will really start to suffer. So, how can you level up your winter skincare routine to keep your complexion looking radiant?
Extra damage to skin
Here are the top offenders when it comes to poor skin, especially if you combine all three:
-
Alcohol – we’re sure it’s not a surprise to anyone that this is our top culprit! Alcohol leaves your body dehydrated, which is instantly noticeable in your skin. You can always tell when someone has a hangover, right? Well, just to make matters worse, if you suffer from skin conditions like rosacea, you’ll be adding to your skin woes, as alcohol increases skin reddening. Do you gain a nasty glow after too much wine? Sulphites used to preserve wine can also give some people a temporary allergic reaction in the form of a red skin rash.
-
Sugar – over recent years, we’ve discovered more about the dramatic impact sugar has on our bodies. We know about the effect it has on our weight, but did you know it can impact your complexion too? Collagen is responsible for keeping our skin looking fresh and youthful, and some of our MAGNITONE devices stimulate the production of collagen on a cellular level. But if you’re partial to a sweet treat too regularly, you could be undoing all your good work. Sugar acts like a sledgehammer to your collagen levels, so you’ll be fighting a losing battle if you eat a lot of sugar. Reduce this type of snack (and you’ll enjoy it more too).
- Salt - ever had that puffy sensation when you’ve eaten a takeaway or a salty restaurant dish? Excess salt in our diet can cause fluid retention, leading to puffy skin and swollen joints. Salt also dehydrates your body, and you’ll know this if you’re desperate for a glass of water after eating too much. So, limit the salty snacks especially during the wintertime.
Hydrate your skin with SteamAhead
First, let’s get your skin’s hydration levels back in check. Our SteamAhead Hydrating Micro Steamer uses deionized micro-steam particles to hydrate your complexion in just 10 minutes. Steaming also helps to remove impurities from your pores and it’s great for decongesting your sinuses. Add in some essential oils to enjoy a relaxing steam session.
Exfoliate skin cells with BareFaced2
Next, let’s cleanse and tone your skin to get rid of any dry and dead skin cells. Our BareFaced2 Cleansing Collection includes a 2-pack of brush heads. Choose the FeatherSoft for a gentle, daily cleanse or the PoreFect for deeper exfoliation. Plus, this set comes with our amazing no-cleanser-needed WipeOut cloths and SWIPES makeup remover pads too.
Post-treatment skin protection
Once you’ve finished your skin treatment, add some extra winter protection with a rich moisturiser containing hyaluronic acid. Clinically proven to provide hydration, this amazing ingredient is used in leading beauty products. Make sure your moisturiser has an SPF factor too, as the winter sun can be surprisingly strong. And wrap up warm when you’re outside!
